WMU as Pilot HEI on Education Reform Empowered by AI
  

Recently, the Office of the Cybersecurity and Informatization Work Leading Group of the Zhejiang Provincial Education System officially released the list of pilot institutions for AI-empowered education and teaching reform in Zhejiang Province. Our university has been successfully included in this list, thanks to its exploration and accomplishments in the application of artificial intelligence in education. This selection not only marks another significant achievement in the university’s endeavor to build a "Digital and Intelligent Medical University" but also stands as a key milestone in advancing toward a new education and teaching model that enables deep integration of future medical education with artificial intelligence.

Our university’s selected category on this list focuses on applying AI technology in educational governance. The project centers on three core areas—demand-driven curriculum design, optimized intelligent public service management, and real-time health diagnosis—and will advance in an orderly, phased way.First, it will deepen research in myopia prevention, scoliosis screening, and psychological assessment, while building a comprehensive AI health service platform that integrates intelligent screening, clinical decision-making, and health management.Second, it will develop a knowledge, competence, problem, and ideological-political mapping system for core medical AI courses. By leveraging AI to support personalized learning, it will innovate the modular teaching model.Third, it will upgrade the university-level intelligent service platform to Version 2.0 to boost the intelligence of administrative processes.


It is reported that since launching its digital campus initiative in 2011, the university has advanced steadily along the trajectory from informatization to digitalization, and ultimately to intelligentization. It has developed an integrated digital portal characterized by "small entry points for large-scale scenarios," deeply integrated core information systems, and established a university-level public data sharing platform. Additionally, the university has built teaching spaces that combine online and offline capabilities, initially developed intelligent applications—such as an AI-powered Q&A system and the "Medical University Schedule Arrangement" intelligent agent—and actively promoted the application of artificial intelligence in health and social services. In terms of landmark digital reform achievements, the university ranks among the top provincial universities in Zhejiang.

The university has successively been designated as a "Strategic Cooperation University with the Educational Management Information Center of the Ministry of Education," a "Zhejiang Provincial Demonstration University for Digital Campuses," a "Zhejiang Provincial Pilot University for Digital Education," one of the "First Batch of Pilot Schools for AI Education in Zhejiang Province," a "Zhejiang Provincial Pilot University for Smart Education Platforms," a "Zhejiang Provincial Pilot Unit for Smart Ideological and Political Applications in Universities," and a "Zhejiang Provincial Comprehensive Pilot Unit for Promoting Smart Education in Regions and Schools." It has also received accolades including the "Typical Case of Digital Empowerment in Educational Management Informatization Development and Application" (awarded by the Ministry of Education), inclusion in the "First Batch of University Government Affairs Data Sharing Application Cases" (by the Ministry of Education), two "Zhejiang Provincial Digital Reform and Innovation Pilots in Education," the "Zhejiang Provincial Excellent Application Case in Digital Society," and the "Best Application" under the "Most Outstanding Achievements" program of the Zhejiang Provincial Digital Reform Office.


This selection as a pilot university for AI to assist educational and teaching reforms not only injects new vitality into the school's informatization development and social services, but also endows informatization construction with more significant responsibilities. In the future, the school will further deepen the application of artificial intelligence in education. Taking the pilot as an opportunity, it will actively explore new concepts, new services, new solutions, new paths and new models for the deep integration of medicine, education and artificial intelligence, striving to create a "medical university model" for the application of artificial intelligence in education, and contribute new quality information productivity to the construction of "Double First-Class" and the high-quality development of education in our school.
